The city of Berlin was abuzz with excitement from November 17th to 19th, 2023, as some boomerang enthusiasts gathered at Alex Place for the highly anticipated ‘Berlin Composite Summit.’ Hosted by the thriving Opri Family, this summit showcased the artistry and innovation of boomerang throwers and makers, with a special focus on Composite MTAs (Maximum Time Aloft). The event was a unique opportunity for attendees to exchange ideas, socialize, and learn new techniques in Composite building.
The Gathering:
This year’s summit boasted an impressive lineup of boomerang throwers and makers, each bringing their unique expertise to the table. Among the were Klaus Haebe, Michael Siems, Alejo Palacio, Jonas Romblad, Alex Opri, Lars Overzee, Dizzy Klockner, and Manuel Schutz. However, one name stood out as a beacon of inspiration – Jonas Romblad, a legend and pioneer in the world of MTA boomerangs. The excitement among attendees reached new heights with the confirmation of Jonas Romblad’s attendance. His legacy and contributions to the sport have left an indelible mark, making his presence at the summit a true honor.
The summit kicked off on Friday with an engaging boomerang-building session. Shared insights, and worked together to create new MTAs. The air was filled with the hum of excitement, fostering an environment of camaraderie and shared passion for the art of boomerang crafting.
Saturday marked the next thrilling chapter of the summit, as we took our creations to the field for testing. The beautiful landscape and challenging winds provided the perfect backdrop for boomerangs to showcase their flight capabilities. At night we went to the city center for the already traditional night boomerang session in front of the Reichstag. We throw several night glow Mtas, but also new custom-made night boomerangs crafted by Collin de Graag. One of the summit’s highlights was Jonas Romblad’s return to building composite MTAs after a hiatus of 23 years. The boomerang luminary, known for his groundbreaking contributions, rolled up his sleeves and crafted a tri blader composite MTA using Alex Mold.
The Berlin Composite Summit 2023 was a resounding success, bringing together boomerang enthusiasts for a weekend of creativity and collaboration. Big thanks to the Opri Family for the unmatched hospitality.
